You can’t beat the game every time you play. You’ll have to count on beating it most of the time, because even with the most sophisticated blackjack games and strategies, the game is not something you can win every since time. Instead, focus on winning more over time as you play – win, some and lose some, but bet the most when you’re confident and the least when you’re not. Overall you should come out ahead.

The Blackjack Strategies

The best strategies for blackjack involve when you’re going to “hit” and when you’re going to “stand.” When you stop to consider the number of 8s, 9s, and 10s in the deck of cards, there is an almost 40 percent chance that the dealer will have a 14, 15 or 16 in his hand.
That taken into account makes the choices for the player a bit trickier to manage. The strategies for blackjack are more about memorization than anything else – the better you know your combinations, the more likely you are to win.

Look for a reasonable table. There’s no point in betting at a table where you’ll have to pay more than 5 percent of your total amount in hand as a minimum on each hand. Pick a table where you can afford to play (and lose) many times in your pursuit of the perfect hand of cards. Outside of money, pick a table that has rules that work for you – some differ on when the dealer has to draw, for example or if you’ll have the option to double down on your cards.

You will never win with anything less than seventeen unless the dealer busts. If the dealer has some nice cards and doesn’t seem at risk of busting, keep hitting on any hand that’s 16 or less. If you have less than 16 and the dealer has low card like a 4, 5 or 6 as these often lead to multiple hits and eventual busts for the dealer letting you win.

Doubling down is a big help to the player as it gives you two chances to beat the dealer. If you’re dealt two cards of the same value, you can split them and double down by doubling your bet as well. Then you can hit on each of your cards. You should avoid splitting face cards, 10’s or 5s however.

Tip your dealers. Dealers don’t make a ton of money and they appreciate a tip from players. Toss the dealer a dollar chip every twenty hands or so to be sure that’s he or she is looking out for you in the game.

There are two major components of black jack strategy – basic strategy and card counting. The basic blackjack strategy is an attempt to make the right choices in order to minimize the house advantage in the games. Learning a basic blackjack strategy will tell which moves to make when, but there is a significant amount of memorization required to make this strategy work.

Card counting blackjack strategy is much more complicated than the basic strategy, and much like a house needs a foundation, the more complex blackjack strategy needs the basics in place through a simple understanding of the house advantage and how to minimize that before the more complex strategies can be used. Through blackjack strategy, the player will need to consider the rules of the game they are playing as the rules can vary with different forms of the game.

The player will need to also plan for making moves based on the score of his hand as well as the dealer’s up card. Learning how to split or double is important as well for players who are learning to maximize the basic blackjack strategy. The simplest blackjack strategies include methods like:

- Doubling down on a 10 or 11 and the dealer’s card is worth less than your hand.
- Hit on all hands of 11 or less.
- Stand with hands that are between 17 and 21.
- With soft hands lower than 15, always hit.
