Set a Budget
It’s a simple rule, but it’s usually overlooked. Before you even start to play make a budget and set a limit for the amount you’re willing to lose. Make that the amount that is the absolute cutoff. This budget will also help you determine how much to bet in a single round – betting it all at once may seem glamorous, but it can also make for a very short-lived afternoon of fun.

Never Bet on a Tie
Among the many baccarat tips, you should never bet on a tie. Casinos will pay out 8:1 or perhaps 9:1 on a tie bet, but you almost never win so there’s really no point in even trying it out. It’s far better to skip this – it’s not the good bet it might appear to be.

Don’t Bother Counting Cards
While card counting may sound like a good strategy, it’s really just a way to kill time while you’re playing. In order to count the cards in the game effectively, you have to be able to subtract and add large numbers in a matter of seconds. And even if you become and expert card counter, the advantage you have is tiny. You’ll only have an advantage in the game every 345 hands of baccarat, and that’s a lot of counting. It’s far better to just enjoy the game without the card counting drama at least.

You’ll notice that under each card it says “Bet $0.05″.  5 cents is the default bet for each card in Bonus Bingo.  To change the bet per card, simply click on the up and down arrows around the “Bet” button at the bottom of the screen.

I want to increase the bet to $1 per card.  To do this, I just click on the up arrow to the left of the Bet button.  After I raise the bet to $1 per card, the screen looks like this:

Now that I have the bet per card I want, I’m ready to get this game of Bonus Bingo started.

To get the round started, simply click on the Play button in the bottom right corner of the screen.  After clicking on Play, the Bonus Bingo screen will look like this:

I won a total of $12 on a $4 bet, not bad!

In the center of the screen you can see a list of every ball that was played in this round of Bonus Bingo.  Also, you will notice that if money was won on a card, it will list how much was won underneath the card.  For example, under the card on the lower left hand part of the screen you’ll see that it says “WIN $12″.  That was a good card!

Once you are finished looking at your winnings, you can start a new round by clicking on the Play button again.

“Hmmm…. I have a 6 card spread.  Should I raise or just continue?”

In this edition of the How To Play Red Dog series, we’ll put those questions to rest.  But first, let’s take a look at the odds you face when playing this fun casino game.

Red Dog Odds

Like most card-based table games, the odds of Red Dog depend on the number of decks used in the game.  Most of the Red Dog games I have played use 6 decks, but just in case you’re an odds junkie and run into something different, here are the Red Dog odds depending on how many decks are being used:

2	3.077%
4	2.884%
6	2.798%
8	2.751%

Usually, the odds of table games (like blackjack) become worse as more decks are used.  But in Red Dog, the opposite is true.  So if you notice only one deck being used in your game, you’re looking at a .3% odds advantage!

Red Dog Strategy

Perfect Red Dog Strategy is easier than you think.  Here it is:

Raise when the spread between the first 2 cards is 7 or higher.  Otherwise, just continue without raising.

When I say a 7 card spread, that means there are 7 cards in between the first two cards.  For example, if the first two cards are a 2 and a 10, this would be a spread of 7 (the 7 possible cards in between are 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9).

“Why a 7 card spread?” you may be wondering.  Well, looking at the statistics, when there is a 7 card spread or greater, you are more likely to win than lose.  If the spread is 6 cards or less, then you are more likely to lose than to win.  Therefor, you want to raise ONLY when you have this advantage.

In the last installment of the How To Play Red Dog series, we went through a complete Red Dog hand to show exactly how the game is played.  In this article, we’ll cover all of the rules you need to know to be a Red Dog expert!  Ready to learn a new casino game?  Let’s get started!

The Object of Red Dog

As we covered in the last Red Dog article, the player will receive 2 cards, and then a third.  If the value of the third card is in between the value of the first two cards, the player wins.  If it is not, the player loses.

Order of Cards in Red Dog

So how do you know if the value of the third card falls between the value of the first 2?

In Red Dog, the value of the cards follows standard poker rules.  To be specific, the value of the cards from smallest to largest is as follows:

• 2
• 3
• 4
• 5
• 6
• 7
• 8
• 9
• 10
• Jack
• Queen
• King
• Ace

Defining “In Between” in Red Dog

Since a player winning or losing rests completely on whether the third card falls “in between” the first two cards, it’s important to understand what is conidered “in between”.

In Red Dog, “in between” means all of the cards between the first and second card, NOT INCLUDING the first and second cards themselves.

So, for example, if the first two cards are a 7 and a Jack, then the “in between” cards would be 8, 9, and 10, but NOT 7 and Jack.  So if the third card is either a 7 or a Jack, the player would still lose.

Ties in Red Dog

A tie (also know as a “push”) always results in the player getting his money back.  In Red Dog, if the first two cards dealt are adjacent to each other in value OR the same value, the hand is considered a tie, and the player receives his money back.

For example, if the first two cards dealt are a 4 and a 5, the hand would be a “push” and the player would receive his money back.

Red Dog Odds

In Red Dog, not every hand has the same odds.  If the first two cards you receive are a 2 and a Queen, there is an enormous spread between the two numbers, making it easy to win the hand.  However, you could get a 5 and a 7, which would have a spread of only 1, making it much harder to win.

That’s why, to encourage more betting and a fairer game, the smaller the spread between the first two cards is, the more money you receive for winning the hand.

Below is a picture of a standard Red Dog table taken from Silver Oak casino:

If you look right under the Red Dog logo, you’ll notice a set of numbers and their associated odds.  This is a list of the different possible spreads between any two given numbers and the payouts associated with them.

Starting at the far left, you’ll see a box with the number 1 and 5:1, the odds the casino will pay you if you win a hand with a spread of only one.

To use the example from above, if the first two cards dealt are a 7 and a 9, then the spread is only one (only being dealt an 8 as the third card can win).  According to the Red Dog table, this spread pays at 5:1, meaning a winning $5 bet would pay the player $25.

The rest of the numbers are fairly self explanatory, but here is a list of the different spreads and the odds associated with them anyway:

• 1 = 5:1
• 2 = 4:1
• 3 = 2:1
• 4 – 11 = 1:1
• Cons (consecutive) = PUSH
• Pair (card values are the same) = PUSH
• Three of a Kind (all 3 cards dealt are of the same value) = 11:1

And I was right!

Red Dog is a fun and easy casino game played with a standard deck of 52 cards.  While its popularity has waned in land based casinos, you can still find it in most online casinos (including Silver Oak!), which is great news for lovers of this game like me.

Red Dog Table

This is what a typical Red Dog table looks like.  Notice there is a section right under the “Red Dog” logo which lists all of the different odds that are possible in this game (more on those later!).

Looking farther down the table you’ll notice a place for an “Ante” and a place for a “Raise”, and to the right you will see your typical denominations of casino chips.

To make a bet and start the hand, we simply click on the chip denomination we want to add to the ante.  Let’s bet $5 by clicking on the $5 chip.

Once we bet $5 on the hand, the Red Dog screen will look like this:

Now there is a red $5 chip in the Ante section of the Red Dog table.  Now that we’re ready to play, simply hit the “Deal” button at the bottom of the screen to deal the cards and start the game.

Once you click on the “Deal” button you will receive your first 2 cards.  It will look like this:

Now, before we bet, let’s quickly go over what the object of Red Dog is.

You can see the two cards that we have now, a 7 and a 10.  We are betting on whether or not the next card dealt will be in between 7 and 10, or outside of the 7 to 10 range.  To win, we need the next card to be between 7 and 10.  If the card is a 7 or lower, OR a 10 or higher, we lose.  If the card is an 8 or 9 (between 7 and 10), then we win.

If we think we have a good chance of winning the hand, we have the option to raise at this point by clicking on the “Raise” button.  However, since there are only 2 cards that we can win with (an 8 or a 9), we probably shouldn’t raise.

To continue the game without raising, we simply click on the “Continue” button to get the third and final card.

When we get our third card, the screen looks like this:

The third card we received was an 8, one of the two cards which would give us the win!

Over the last couple of weeks we have taken a look at how to play Baccarat.

As you’ve seen, Baccarat rules can be a little bit complicated if you are the one dealing the cards.  Luckily, whether you are playing in a land based casino or are playing Baccarat online, all of the complicated rules are always handled by the dealer.

As a Baccarat player, the only thing you have to worry about is picking from 3 possible betting options:

• Bet on the Banker
• Bet on the Player
• Bet on a Tie

When you boil it down, that’s all there is to this popular casino game!

How To Win Baccarat

Now that you know how to play Baccarat, and how all the rules work, do you want to know how to WIN Baccarat?

Believe it or not, the best winning Bacarrat strategy is incredibly simple: Always bet on the Banker.

“That’s it?” you may be asking.

Yes…. That’s it.

The reasoning behind this strategy simply boils down to the odds of the game.

Just look at the house edge (the percent advantage the casino has) for each bet:

• A bet on the banker has a 1% house advantage.
• A bet on the Player has a 1.2% house advantage.
• A bet on Tie has a 14.4% house advantage.

As you can see,  when you bet on the Banker, the casino has the lowest advantage out of all possible bets.  There is nothing you can do to change these odds, so the best strategy for Baccarat is just to bet on the Banker every single time.

Well, first of all, the odds in Baccarat are extraordinarily good, no matter how you play.  Second, it’s one of those games that is fairly complicated to understand, but extremely easy to play once you get it.  The purpose of this article is to make sure you get it.

How To Play Baccarat

Without going into extreme detail in this first article, I will give you enough information to give you an idea of what is going on, and how to successfully play your first Baccarat hands.

To start, let’s take a look at what the Baccarat table looks like:

In the top half of the table you will notice two areas for cards- the Player and the Banker.  Much like in Blackjack, both the player and the banker will receive cards, and either the player or the banker will win based on the cards they receive.

However, in Baccarat, you always have the option to bet on either the banker’s or the player’s hand winning; you are not restricted to only betting on the player’s hand.  In addition, you can bet on the banker and the player ending in a tie.

Baccarat Bets

As you can see from the image above, there are three large areas that read “Tie”, “Banker”, and “Player”.  Use these areas to bet on the player winning, the banker winning, or the two hands resulting in a tie.

For this example, let’s make a bet on the player winning.  To place a bet on the player, I simply click on the area that reads “Player”, and then click on the chips in the lower right hand portion of the Baccarat table to add chips to my total wager on the player.

After I make a bet on the player, the Baccarat table looks like this:

As you can see, I placed a $5 bet on the Player winning this hand.  Now that my Baccarat bet is in place, I want to deal the cards and see if I win.

To deal the cards, simply click on the “Deal” button in the bottom center portion of the Baccarat game screen.  After dealing the cards, the table looks like this:

After the cards are dealt, the Player hand wins!  As you can see, I won $5 on my $5 bet, or 1:1 odds.  If you don’t understand why the player won on the hand, don’t worry.  I will explain this later in the article.

Let’s see what happens when I bet $5 on the Banker winning.  I bet on the banker by clicking on the “Banker” area of the Baccarat table and then clicking on the $5 chip.  After I bet on the Banker, the Baccarat table looks like this:

To deal the cards an see if I won, I just click on the “Deal” button at the bottom of the Baccarat game screen, just like I did above.  After clicking on the “Deal” button, the Baccarat screen looks like this:

As you can see above, I won again!  Drinks are on me ladies!

However, if you look carefully, you’ll notice that I only won $4.75 on my $5 bet.  What gives?  When you bet on the banker in Baccarat, a 5% commission is taken out of all of your winnings.

So if betting on the Banker means you have to give back 5% of all of your winnings to the casino, why would anyone want to bet on the Banker?  Well, the answer lies in how the scored are tabulated and the rules the banker and the player are required to follow.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Pai Gow Poker!

While Pai Gow Poker isn’t the easiest game to learn, once you catch on, you’ll see it’s a breeze!  In this article I will take you step-by-step through a complete hand of Pai Gow Poker.  If you would like to follow along with the guide, simply download the FREE casino games software from Silver Oak Casino, which includes a Pai Gow Poker game.

How To Play Pai Gow Poker

In Pai Gow poker, the player (you) is always playing against the bank, as it is done in blackjack, for example.  A typical Pai Gow Poker game goes like this:

1. Both the player and the dealer (the bank) receive 7 cards.
2. With these cards, both the bank and the player make the best 5 card hand and the best 2 card hand possible.
3. Both the player and the banker show their cards and to the winner goes the spoils!

How To Win Pai Gow Poker

As was said above, both the player and the dealer need to make 2 hands- one of 5 cards, and one of 2 cards.

If both the dealer’s 5 card hand beats the player’s 5 card hand AND the dealer’s 2 card hand beats the player’s 2 card hand, the dealer wins.  If the both the player’s 5 card hand AND 2 card hand beat the dealer’s, then the player wins (the player technically wins 1:1 odds, minus a 5% commission).

If the player has only one winning hand (ie the player has a better 5 card hand, but a worse 2 card hand), then the game is considered a tie, and the player receives his original bet back.

Pai Gow Poker Hands

Pai Gow Poker uses the same ranking system as regular poker.  For 5 card hands, the ranking system is exactly the same as regular poker, EXCEPT many casinos have one exception: the “wheel straight” ( Ace, 2, 3, 4, 5 ) is considered the 2nd highest ranking straight after Ace, King, Queen, Jack, Ten.

The two card hands are ranked exactly as you would expect- the highest hand you can have is a pair of Aces, and the lowest you can have is a 2, 3.

To make things a little more interesting, Pai Gow Poker always features a Joker, which can be used as a substitute for any other card.

One final rule: The 2 card hand cannot be a better poker hand than the 5 card hand.  For example, if you are dealt a 7 card hand of King, King, 2, 5, 6, 8, 10  you may be tempted to make the pair of Kings the 2 card hand.  However, this would make the 2 card hand larger than the 5 card hand, which is against the rules.  In this situation, you would have to make the 2 card hand 10, 8 and leave the Kings in the 5 card hand.

The Pai Gow Poker Table

Below is an example of a typical Pai Gow Poker table.

As you can see above, there is an area on both the dealer’s side and the player’s side that is marked “Highest”.  This is where the 5 card hands will be placed.  The area marked “2nd Highest” is where the 2 card hands will be placed.

To get the game started, simply make a bet by clicking on the desired chip denomination in the lower right hand corner of the Pai Gow Poker game screen.  The minimum bet in this game is $5, so I will bet $5.

Once you make your bet, the Pai Gow Poker screen will look like this:

Now that we have made our first bet, to get our cards and get the game started, we just need to click on the “Deal” button in the bottom-center of the Pai Gow Poker Screen.

After clicking on “Deal” the Pai Gow Poker screen will look like this (you may have different cards!):

Now that we have been dealt our 7 cards, we want to make the 2 best hands we can- one of 5 cards, and one of 2 cards.  To review the rules of what hands you can make, see the “Pai Gow Poker Hands” section above.  If you are ready, let’s make our 5 card and 2 card hand.

Since the pair of Aces is the highest 5 card hand I can make, they will be my 5 card hand.  Now, what to do with those 8′s?

Some people like to keep both of the pairs in the same hand, so that there is a better chance that the 5 card hand will at least be better than the dealer’s.  Others like to split up the pairs so that both the 5 card hand and the 2 card hand are at least somewhat strong.

I personally like to make both hands strong in this situation ( I will explain WHY in my future Pai Gow Poker Strategy article, stay tuned!).  To execute this strategy, I need to make the pair of 8′s the 2 card hand, and leave the rest of the cards for the 5 card hand.

To do this, I simply click on each 8.  When I click on each 8, they will pop up from the rest of the hand slightly.  It looks like this:

Once I have selected the two 8′s, I can send them over to the 2 card hand by clicking on the “Split” button in the bottom-center of the Pai Gow Poker game screen.  After I click on the “Split” button, the computer will separate the cards into the hands I chose, and the dealer will reveal his cards.  The computer then shows who won each hand, and settles the bet on the table.

After I click on “Split” the screen looks like this:

As you can see from the Pai Gow Poker game screen above, I won both the 5 card hand AND the 2 card hand!

Can you see why?

Well, in the 5 card hand, I have a pair of Aces, while the dealer only had a pair of Kings, meaning I win.  Also, in the 2 card hand, I had a pair of 8′s, while the dealer only had an Ace high.

Since I won both hands, I win $5 minus the 5% commission to the house.  After the commission is taken out, I am left with a win of $4.75, not bad!
