George Costanza Among Early WSOP Chip Leaders

He’s best known and loved as the character George Costanza on the immensely popular sitcom Seinfeld, but actor Jason Alexander also knows his way around a poker table. And so far he’s one of the biggest surprises at the World Series of Poker Main Event, which has just gotten underway.

Because the main event is so huge, the first “day” of poker actually has to be broken up into four days. Jason Alexander kicked off the tournament on Day 1A on Thursday, and by the time the last card was dealt in his heat, he had enough chips to be in 31st position. That’s pretty impressive considering the fact he’s competing with every poker pro on the planet, and quite a few extremely skilled amateurs as well. It’s not his first time at the WSOP, but it his his first time seeing his name anywhere near the top of the leader board.
