Poker Superstar Makes WSOP Main Event Final 9

When the main event at the 2009 World Series of Poker started two weeks ago, 6,494 players sat down at the tables, dreaming of riches. After almost two weeks of grueling poker-filled days and nights, it is down to nine players and one final table. And, in what has proven to be the exception rather than the norm in recent years, one of poker’s biggest names is among the final nine. Phil Ivey, who many consider the best player in the game, will go for a bracelet when the final table finally gets to finish the event…in a few months.

For reasons that make sense only to the mysterious people in charge of television scheduling, the final table at the WSOP main event is played in November, instead of during the actual World Series. Which means those nine players will have to wait months to learn if their bank account is about to have a lot more zeroes. The winning player will receive $8,546,435. Of course, even the player who comes in ninth won’t have much to complain about, as he’ll walk home with just under a million bucks.
