Though it already feels like a lifetime ago, “I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!” just started airing last week, and it’s already claimed its first victim. Fortunately(?) it wasn’t an actual death, but Heidi Montag was rushed to a Costa Rica hospital after spending the night with a variety of insects in a torture chamber (or, as I call it, a Treasure Chamber, due to the entertainment value of seeing Spencer and Heidi suffer).
Of course, as with all things related to Speidi’s appearance on this show, there is some doubt about what actually happened. So far, the media has been abuzz with reports of them storming off the show at least three different times, only to have them re-appear at the beginning of the following episode. It all seems part of an intricate plot to make us actually believe that anything happening on the show is somehow real, or interesting.
Nevertheless, despite all the faux-drama and the relative dull-ness of watching arguments about shampoo bottles and baptisms, I’m still watching. Which probably says more about the limited entertainment value provided by Summer TV, and less about the quality of the show itself. All in all, I and every other viewer, could probably make better use of our time by turning off the TV and trying to win a few bucks in our online casino.
