If you’re a woman who loves to gamble, economists at the University of Chicago may have figured out why. They did an experiment to determine if testosterone levels had an effect on our desire to take risks and the results were definitive.
Women with higher than average levels of the hormone were more inclined to take financial gambles than those with average or lower levels. For those who are knowledgeable about how hormones affect us, the results weren’t too surprising. Testosterone is known to enhance competitiveness, reduce fear and increase confidence. Of course it also leads to increased facial hair and a burning desire to go to monster truck rallies.
